Scattered Audience
Last night was my first class in English Composition 1 at IRCC in St Lucie West. My professor is fantastic and very enjoyable - the 3 hour class went by so quickly! One thing that really struck home was him talking about writing and when you write, who are you writing to? Who is my audience? I thought back to this website, when it began, and what I’ve done with it so far. My focus for the site has been all over the place and I’ve never identified my target audience. When people come here they have no reason to come back and my blogging posts have been more of journal entries. Some times I didn’t know what to write about but felt the pressure of having to blog about something so I’d blurb about a new technology I found or a small update of what was going on.
I can say, however, that I do blog on an alternate website and it is running fabulously. As always, I’m innovating new ways to do business and I’m poking around an idea for a “career” change. But before I take the leap I have been drawing on the expertise from people who are already in the business. I’m vague - I’m always vague about what I plan to do. I hate to be vague but I guess it’s a fear that if I pronounce what I plan to do and then after researching it I decide not to do it then I look like a fool. Boy, if you could read the notes in my purple journal that I carry around. The journal houses all the ideas that I have had for business concepts since the beginning of this year. If my evolving concept were put into a movie or timeline your head would spin … my head would spin if I looked back it all. But the one constant that keeps me grounded is my purpose - my purpose to create a business and make it succeed. Trial, error, and an un-named audience are the name of the game for now.
So if you’re new to this site and you’re reading this right now just know that one day I’ll get my act together and this site will have a purpose and an audience. You may not be my target audience, but you were here when it all began and that is a neat thing.
